5. HOW WE WANT TO BE THIS CHURCH?

the last part of our plan What we need to improve? Pastoral Plan objectives and improvements we proposed three important tasks of the Mission:

 • Evangelization In Communion and Participation In
 • Social Commitment

5.1 The Evangelization

5.1.1 Objectives: The primary goal of evangelization is a clear announcement of Christ alive and his ideal of building the Kingdom of God on earth.

Be aware that ALL FROM THE BAPTISM We are called to holiness, not just a superficial piety of prayers, petitions and praises, but we are asked a total commitment to building the Kingdom of God, being tough to give his life if necessary, as the saints and martyrs.

must revive and encourage the vocation of all baptized men and women, work of evangelization, in order to grow the Fe:

 • a faith more personal conviction.
 • we celebrate our common faith feel the brotherhood and joy.
 • To hold "inculturation", ie according to our own way of relating to God, with brothers and with creation.
 • A faith that commits us to build the Kingdom of God, which is beginning to do at work for a better world for everyone.
 • A faith solidarity, community, transforming this world so unfair.
 • A faith that builds communion.

5.1.2
What roads are going to take?

5.1.2.1 Renew Evangelism: This is an important task in overcoming the superficial Catholicism and without conversion and without apostolic commitment and renew our Christian communities:

 • Reviving and prioritize vocation of all baptized Christians to missionary work and encourage everyone to join in the various ministries and services. Rate
 • traditional ministries. We want all those services in the community (elders, prayers, brothers ...) are integrated into community life. That new Ministries respect the old and open a dialogue between them.

5.1.2.2 Renewing faith celebration: Making The Eucharist is the center of community life:

 • must express the unity and diversity, fraternity and service to the needy.
 • deepen the meaning of each sacrament and celebrate with a sense of community to avoid becoming "social events" or noisy environments are created that prevent the necessary concentration and reflection, and also to consider the current guidelines of the Church.
 • express the life experiences of communities, their troubles and their hopes for the celebration of the sacraments and other life experiences of communities. Incorporate specific signs and symbols that express, according to the sense of community, faith that is celebrated. Ie to achieve a festive liturgy and inculturation. Renew
 • celebrations of the Word to be an attentive ear, heart, the message of Christ and a common reflection on community life that will lead to real commitments. Making
 • are properly prepared with the participation of all ministries and groups, without exception and with creativity.
 • Always keep in mind that all this celebratory dimension is important because it is part of life.
5.1.2.3
Renew Catechesis: Catechesis process should be a solid grounding in the faith.

 • Renovate and systematize the Catechesis of children, youth and adults, in the sense that it is less massive, using new methodology, more personal, especially with youth. Advertise
 • clearly living Christ. And his choice for the Kingdom. Remember
 • Catechesis of guidance on the various forms of prayer. For each community and family is a school of prayer DEEP, non-routine, which leads us to the experience of personal faith and conversion and convincing.
 • Lost
 • memory of our martyrs and saints within the catechetical content, which are rich in our Church.
 • refocusing the missionary.:. Systematize the Sunday catechism.

Communion and Participation 5.2 The

5.2.1 Objectives:

 • maintaining communion in diversity. The Church is communion in the image of the Trinity. His spirituality is fellowship.
 • must be achieved, therefore, a greater involvement of priests, religious, religious and laity, each according to his identity in the structures or bodies of the Church in order to ensure continuity in pastoral work.
 • Promote Good organization, so that from the responsibility, to run a joint pastoral.

5.2.2 What roads are going to take?:

5.2.1.1 Communion and coordination:

 • promote community unity through the union of all groups in the Eucharist and / or Celebration of the Word. Foster
 • communion between priests and religious. Making
 • small faith communities share their support, are favored to be accompanied each other.
 • Encourage the catechists or delegates of the Word have the space and support necessary to organize and coordinate among themselves at the community level, at the parish level, zonal level and diocesan level.
 • insist that the Parish Council, in the pastoral areas MEETINGS, sessions DIOCESAN PASTORAL COUNCIL, and on various commissions, should be represented various lay ministries. Promote
 • DIFFERENT GROUPS AND LAY MINISTRIES do his ministry in coordination, without rivalry. For this reason we propose to create Councils LAY, we need to coordinate their parish ministry of the various lay groups.

5.2.1.2 Training:

 • properly prepare the responsibilities of each ministry Taking into account that requires a specific methodology for urban and one for rural areas.
 • PARTICIPATE IN retreats. Not only "workshops."

5.2.1.3 Participation of Women:

 • MORE SPACE PROVIDED AND DUTIES OF WOMEN in the ministry, also in the direction of community activities. PROMOTING WOMEN'S ORGANIZATIONS
 • for mutual aid and to participate more strongly.

Pastoral 5.2.1.4 Specific: Do not forget the need to organize.

 • family ministry. School parents, as deemed in each parish. Must be addressed here fields of family planning and responsible parenthood.
 • CHILDREN'S MINISTRY. Taking into account what has been said about the catechism. YOUTH MINISTRY
 • . Recalling that this is a preferred option in the Church in Latin America, and the urgent pastoral care for most of the people in our Diocese. Every parish should have it.
 • vocations. Young people are an important part of the Church to carry out its mission. We educate them to listen to the call of Christ. Is an integral part of the pastoral community and family.
 • PASTORAL EDUCATION. We need to stimulate the pastoral care of the various pastoral agents that affect it (youth, teachers, families, etc.).

5.2.1.5. New Ministries: need to better serve existing ministries, assume that are not yet known and encourage the creation of which may be required. For example:

 • the permanent diaconate. Taking seriously the widespread application to be considered from the cultural identity of the peoples of the Verapaz.
 • THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION.
 • CARE OF ELDERLY AND SICK.
 • MINISTRIES OF THE ELDERS OF SONG.

5.3 The Social Commitment

5.3.1 Objectives:

 • The main objective is to put into practice the Christian love in an organized manner, is ie, not individually but as members of a community and therefore in communion and participation. Flesh
 • option for the poor, the needy, the privileged recipients of the Gospel, aware of social changes in the current context of globalization. Communities that are open to new social situations. Recognize
 • Charity organized in this way is part of the identity of the Church. Making
 • each community has its organization in this field, its social pastoral agents, who live in the community to maintain social commitment and the necessary information on the situation of people.
 • Create a culture of peace, reconciliation, dialogue and tolerance.

5.3.2 What roads are going to take?

5.3.2.1 Starting from an analysis or diagnosis of our community. is, let's see what the needs strong.
5.3.2.2 Promote a sense of community. This is what we can do as a community. Perhaps supporting the rule making or responding to other needs that the State does not. 5.3.2.3
Respecting the dignity of the needy. not discriminate by sex or age or religion or culture. Engage in the defense of life and promoting human rights, in particular directly promote the dignity and rights of women.
5.3.2.4 Raising the consciousness of that Charity is an essential part of evangelization , is the result of an effective evangelization. Everything else: prayer, doctrine, God's Word, sacraments, must be focused on service to others. 5.3.2.5
organize activities in order to reconciliation and peace. To promote a culture of dialogue within communities, a new consciousness of coexistence and respect for differences and thus overcome the culture of violence, sexism, racism, sectarianism, enforcement and lack of dialogue.

Train and 5.3.2.7. For the development and effective citizen participation.

What's Wrong With Monta Ellis' Knee

4. CHURCH WHAT WE WANT?

4.1 Introduction
We briefly discussed our reality, now we will present HOW WE WANT OUR CHURCH IS VERAPAZ. These are the five most important qualities in order of priority, discussed and voted at the Diocesan Assembly.
We have taken into account the guidelines of Vatican II, the Latin American Episcopal Council (CELAM), the Episcopal Conference of Guatemala (CEG) and of course, social and cultural reality of our land.

4.2
Praying Church

"In those days it was a mountain to pray and spent the night in prayer to God. When the time called his disciples and chose twelve of them ... "(Luke 6:12-13).

prayer and contemplation of the evangelizing action arises. A contemplative and prayerful church, able to meet God and hear his voice, can do his will. It is contemplating Christ, to love and imitate him and then announce it. The experience of prayer should be like a transverse axis in all the actions of the Church in communion and participation in its inculturation, etc. The result is a mystical contemplation that makes the baptized recognize the values that God planted in their culture and contribution in the light of the Gospel that frees and improves the lives of individuals and peoples.

4.3 Evangelization and Missionary Church

"Go and make all nations my disciples, baptize in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I I have commanded ... "(M t. 28:19-20).

All baptized we respond to God's call, the missionary responsibility is a commitment by all (as), which is based on e Baptism and strengthened in Confirmation, so that everyone finds his place in the Church, develop his charisma, his gifts, in communion with others, in various ministries. Prior to the call to any particular ministry is the call to evangelization, all who have been evangelized are called and urged to evangelize others, but then every person alive their commitment according to their own vocation. That mainly young people, open your heart to Christ, you can call them and ask a more radical his service as lay missionaries, religious (as) or priests. Promoting such vocations is the responsibility of every Christian family.

Church Communion
4.4 y. Participation.

"That all may be one as You, Father, are in me and I in you. They are also one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent. "(Jn 17:21).

We undertake to promote a united Church. But this union does not mean we do all the same and the same way. Respecting the gifts and qualities of each we will participate together in the mission Church, a Church of participation.

Especially the laity must be more spaces in the decision, direction and organization, so that our Church needs lay well organized and prepared as there is enough good will or desire to participate and lead.

The various ministries and groups must agree on the objectives and work together to achieve them. This requires good coordination, in conjunction with the Bishop, diocesan councils, pastoral areas, parishes and parish councils, which are means of coordinating people and fraternal. They must participate to strengthen communion.

4.5 inculturated Church

"And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us and we saw his glory ..." (John 1.14).

We have to feel our church as our family, not something foreign to our way of life. In this church family there are brothers and sisters from different cultures which enrich the life of the Church, calls for unity, not division.

Although the content of the Christian message is the same for all forms of live the faith must be distinguished, while respecting the eigenmodes of each culture, ie "the ways individuals and, in a village, men cultivate their relationship with nature, among themselves and with God" (Puebla Doc 386).

In the life of the Church no culture should be considered superior to another, or impose their own ways to express or celebrate their faith, this should be considered primarily in preaching, in the celebrations of the Word in the sacramental liturgy, the church organization and ministry. Both the elderly, as young people, the Maya and Ladino, must feel respected and loved in the way of expressing faith and love.

Nor is it correct to think that the forms and traditions can not be changed.

4.6
Servant of the Poor

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, why I devoted. He sent me to bring good news to the poor "(Lk 4.18).

What identifies the Church is its poor condition and servant of the poor. and although we can not solve the problems of all the poor, is a requirement of our Church is a constant concern to find them and close them, solve their problems. The lack of attention to the material needs and spiritual needs of the poor indicate a great lack of the Spirit of Christ.

We must do a better organized social ministry for our willingness to share our thinking and social doctrine, our material goods, means of production, etc., Not wasted through lack of organization. It should articulate the social pastoral activities to the needs of each parish.

We proclaim in our catechesis and preaching our Christian commitment to a more just and solidarity with those fighting for human rights and denounce injustice and corruption.

Should I Send A Card On An Anniversary Of A Death

THE REALITY OF OUR DIOCESE

HOW OUR CHURCH IS NOW VERAPAZ?

In this second part we have a diagnosis of how we are now. What are our strengths and weaknesses. How we see ourselves.

1. NO PROBLEMS

Let's start by being aware of the serious problems of our people. What is getting daily food, education of children, respect for our cultural identity, our religious identity and live in peace.

17-04-09 368

A. With Social.

Although there are people living relatively well, most of our people suffer serious social problems. We will highlight some of them.

 • Lack of land. This is considered a serious problem, because most people are peasants, and if you do not have land to rent or live as squatters on farms. So do not feel free, are unlikely to overcome. Some have land, but the plots are so small they can not afford to feed the family throughout the year. This is called small holdings, in the case of most farmers in Baja and Alta Verapaz.
 • Migration. Many young have to look for life in another place, go to the capital to work as laborers, security guards, masons, maids, etc. or even go to the U.S.. UU. They live in slums where social life is very insecure and easily fall victim to crime or vice. The emigration of young people, in Baja Verapaz, is enormous. There are hardly any young people in rural areas.
 • Maras. We increase the number of young people who are part of gangs. They are confused and disappointed youth of this society that does not give them what they want. They are the product of so much poverty, corruption, lack of good education school and family, bad catechesis, and the bad habits they have learned elsewhere or in the media. In gangs, they show their frustration and protest. Fall into crime and drugs.
 • Deception by politics. There is a big disappointment in politics, because of widespread corruption. The people are losing interest in participating, and that makes it more difficult to overcome the crisis we are.

B. In the religious.

What is happening to us? How social status affects the religious?

 • The Offer of sects. The growth and division of the individualistic tendency expressed sects. Christians are more concerned with his "salvation" or "spiritual welfare, which the community service. Search for "feel good" in their sect, and do not mind "being and doing church." This deviation from the true Christian spirit has tainted many Catholics.
 • Many groups within the Church. is good to have different groups, according to the gifts, but unfortunately not always are the fruit of the Holy Spirit that is manifested by the closed, exclusive and fanatical groups.
 • The new generations of immigrants, are copying religious forms of urban environments, to give more value and try to impose their communities of origin. Arrive, they impose, reject, imitate evangelical styles and break the harmony in communities.
 • Conflicts with traditional groups. More and more often the renewal of Christian life and new forms of spirituality and evangelization conflicts with the traditional groups, too attached to their traditions, not differentiate between what is important and what should be changed. Is missing dialogue.

C. Culturally.

 • loss of important values. few by what they see in the city, others because they are influenced by television ... Many good values are depreciating and losing, for example, we noticed less sense of community, rejecting one's own language, less sensitivity to the presence of God ... less interested in defending social rights ... most family dysfunction.
 • Loss of identity. Our people have a lot of cultural diversity: Q'eqchi ', Poqomchi', Achi and Ladino. But the people of Mayan origin are not social and political organization allowed the development according to their rights. This lack of structure and resources makes weak to maintain its identity to the challenges of modern society.
 • is not in the religious dimension, specifically in the liturgy, to value and preserve their original models of relationship with God.
Does EVERYTHING IS NEGATIVE? Of course not!

In recent years we have seen how it has aroused the apostolic spirit of the laity. In the rural area is not new, but if it is in urban areas. We see many lay people studying theology, participating in retreats, courses, etc.. In the parishes involved in the planning and decision through Pastoral Councils, etc.

new values are being met, shortly before taken into account: more dynamism in the liturgical life, more ability to take changes, increased participation of women seeking a more personal relationship with God and authentic, more sense of conversion, etc.. The witness of life and ministry in recent years that led many brothers even to give his life in martyrdom.
